Business English
Globalization together with education require people to master a second language as part of their professional preparation so that they can develop and stand out at work.
Mastering a second language opens the door to many opportunities, both personal and professional, which is why, in order to get better job offers, individuals currently decide to study more than one language, being English the main language to start a conversation with other people in different areas and countries.
The World Economic Forum indicates that the importance of a language can be calculated through the Power Language Index, better known as PLI, this system is capable of quantifying the power of a language beyond the countries that have it as an official language.
According to the PLI, business English is the most useful language in the world, since 4 of the 10 most competitive economies have it as their official language, therefore, the figures support that this language is essential to grow professionally.
Differences between Business English and Traditional English
When entering the business sector, it is very common for people to have some confidence in being able to communicate with other speakers, however, the reality is that business English is special because it allows professionals to acquire the necessary language skills to communicate. and interact smoothly within the world of work.
In order for you to understand why business English diverges so much from traditional English, we present the following differences between the two:
- Business English requires a formal language, unlike the traditional one where specific words are used to describe job sites, such as accounting Department or Human Resources Department / Personnel Department.
- Conversations in business English require specialized expressions in finance, business or marketing, otherwise the parties involved will not be able to understand each other; An example is the case of Wage or salary, which means salary and which changes when the gross salary is indicated with before tax or after tax.
- Traditional English does not have as many variants, unlike business English, which requires conventions of etiquette; As an example we have the concepts to take a leave from work either due to maternity or illness: maternity/paternity leave or sick leave.
- Business English requires special degrees in International Business to know the vocabulary. The advanced English certifications that we offer at The Anglo are endorsed by the University of Cambridge, with the main objective of mastering the language from the workplace.
